Looking to keep the kiddies busy in the lead up to Christmas? Then look no further! Here are 12 fun ideas that are easy to set up, fun to do and are family friendly.
This blog will provide you with 12 examples of activities that are suitable for your little believers to enjoy, however, get creative, add in your own traditions and get the whole family involved. The idea is to connect and enjoy the lead up to Christmas in what can otherwise be a crazy busy time of the year for most.
1. Deck the Halls and Decorate the Christmas Tree
This family tradition is a must! Whether you choose to purchase a fresh tree or not, putting up a Christmas tree and decorating the halls is the perfect way to kick start that holiday spirit.
Have you shopped the handmade Christmas decor in this guide? If not, go check it out now (here)! So many gorgeous products!
2. Make and Send Christmas Cards
With some paper, pencils and glue anything is possible. Cut up some pictures from some old Christmas cards or even from magazines and let your children do the rest. It also adds such a special touch to your Christmas gifts to family.
3. Get Christmas Crafty
Make Christmas snowflakes or a Christmas tree out of everyday objects. Or even a pair of Santa searchers! The options are endless and most times you can find everything you need right in your own home.
4. Get Baking Make a gingerbread house - check out our favourite recipe here for some at home fun. This is a family tradition in my home and something we do every year. If you are feeling over-whelmed with the coking why not check out your local community. Most have events you can do and decorate a gingerbread house and the best part, no clean-up for you! You can also buy a premade kit from most shops.
5. Lights
Go Christmas light looking. Take a walk or drive around your neighbourhood and watch amazement in your little one's eyes. Heck who am I kidding, this one is a favourite for everyone.
6. Christmas Movies
Have a Christmas movie night - the options are endless from Elf of the Grinch there are so many movies to choose from. Make it extra special and print some movie tickets and invite the family along. Oh, and don't forget the popcorn!
7. Special Breakfast
Enjoy some Christmas themed pancakes for breakfast. Too busy in the morning? Why not have them for dessert instead! Get your little ones involved in the prep or simply surprise them with the end result.
8. Donate
Donate a toy to charity. Not only is this a great lesson to share with your youngsters it is also a beautiful way to give back to those in need in your community. Christmas is the season for giving after all.
9. Write to Santa
Write a letter to Santa. This one is great to do at the beginning of December, that way you can get some last minute present ideas if need be... PARENT HACK!!!
10. Visit Santa
Pay a visit to Santa. Nothing gets that Christmas spirit happening for your children like a visit to the local shopping centre and visiting Santa.
11.Carols
Join your local community Christmas carols. Put on your Santa hat, those ugly Christmas sweaters and get your singing voices ready for a fun filled night with Christmas songs.
12. Family Photos
Family photos. Get everyone dressed up and pose in front your Christmas tree with the whole family. It's lots of fun and bonus you get an updated family photo. In my household we even purchased some funny props and go photo booth style in front of the tree.
